Rooney Votes to Protect Unborn Children
WASHINGTON, D.C. – Congressman Tom Rooney (FL-17) voted in favor of the Pain-Capable Unborn Child Protection Act, H.R. 36, as it passed the House floor, today. This bipartisan bill protects the lives of unborn children starting at 20 weeks after fertilization — the point at which the unborn child can begin feeling pain in the womb.
“As a member of Congress, I feel that it is my responsibility to protect innocent lives, especially those of unborn children,” Rooney said. “I have consistently upheld this responsibility since I came to Washington. Protecting unborn lives who can already feel pain is a big step and I will continue to support policies protecting those who cannot protect themselves.”
The Pain Capable Child Protection Act, amends the federal criminal code, making it a crime to attempt or perform an abortion after 20 weeks unless in conformity with specific provisions. The bill passed the House of Representatives by a vote of 237 – 189.
