Rooney Statement on the Budget Vote

Washington, D.C. – Congressman Tom Rooney (R-Fla.) released the following statement today regarding the vote on the budget resolution: 

“The budget passed by the majority today will increase government spending to unprecedented levels, increase taxes by $1.5 trillion, double our nation’s debt in five years and continues the borrow-and-spend mentality that has already left us with a massive national debt.  Our country can no longer afford to pile our own irresponsible debt on the shoulders of our children and grandchildren.  The majority’s budget spends too much, taxes too much, and borrows too much. 

“Our nation is facing extremely challenging times and a mountain of debt.  I supported and voted for the plan offered by the Republican Study Committee (RSC) which would curb frivolous spending and provide $1.2 trillion in tax relief for hard working Americans to help small business owners create new jobs.  This plan would also balance the national debt by 2019.  We must put an end to the out of control government spending.”
