Rooney Response to the State of the Union Address
Washington, D.C. – Congressman Tom Rooney (FL-17) released the following statement in response to President Donald J. Trump’s first State of the Union Address before a joint session of Congress:
“The president’s agenda for this year is one that answers the call from people across the country – for Congress to stop the infighting, stop with the excuses and actually deliver on our promises,” Rooney said.
“Fixing our nation’s infrastructure, keeping our country safe, and creating an environment in which people can secure good jobs in their communities are those rare issue areas where all Americans should be able to find common ground. I hope my colleagues leave this chamber ready to work together – the first steps being to stop delaying disaster relief for Florida’s Heartland and to find a way to keep our government funded for longer than three weeks at a time. Once we stop governing by crisis we can actually start making a difference in people’s lives, which is supposed to be why we’re here. I look forward to acting on the bipartisan initiatives we heard tonight and fixing the real problems our constituents face in their everyday lives.”
