Rooney Questions Administration's Plan to Cut Veterans' Benefits

Press Release
Washington, D.C. – Congressman Tom Rooney today denounced and promised to fight the Obama Administration’s plan to force veterans to use private insurance to pay for treatment of combat and service-connected injuries. Veterans have long been promised and have relied on the VA to cover treatment of combat and service related injuries, the administration’s proposal would reverse this commitment and force private insurers to reimburse the Department of Veterans Affairs in such cases.
“The administration’s plan is a complete reversal on a long standing commitment to our war fighters,” said Rooney. “We have a moral obligation to care for those who were wounded while serving to protect our country. I will fight to protect that commitment and oppose any attempt to back away from it. Our nation’s veterans should be seen as heroes – not potential profits. The government sent these men and women to war, not the private employers. The government should honor its commitment to those put in harm’s way”
Various Veterans groups such as the American Legion, Veterans of Foreign Wars and Iraq and Afghanistan Veterans of America have all come out in strong opposition to this unfair proposal.
