Rooney Blasts AIG Bonus Payouts
Washington, D.C. – Congressman Tom Rooney (R-Fla.) voted today for a measure that would bring a bill to the House floor to direct the Secretary of the Treasury to recoup the American International Group, Inc. (AIG) executive bonuses. Rooney, a co-sponsor of the bill, joined other freshman Republican members in calling for AIG to pay the taxpayer back for these outrageous payments.
“I am outraged at the greed displayed by AIG executives and stunned by their cavalier attitude,” said Rooney after hearing of AIG’s plan to distribute over $165 million in executive bonuses. “There is absolutely no justification for paying bonuses to the same individuals who helped drive AIG straight into this mess. My constituents in Florida are outraged and they deserve answers.”
