Rooney Adding Workforce Training to Jobs Plan
For Immediate Release: October 26, 2011
New Component a Response to Feedback from Local Job Creators
Washington, D.C. – Responding to feedback from a panel of local businesses and job creators, U.S. Rep. Tom Rooney (FL-16) today announced that he will add a job training provision to his plan to help the private sector create jobs.
“When I spoke to local job creators about my jobs plan, the one area they said I still needed to address was job training,” Rooney said. “Several local business owners told me that when they have job openings, they often have trouble finding the skilled workers they need to fill those jobs and grow their businesses. I listened to the concerns of Florida employers, and I’m going to add a new provision to my jobs bill to bring down unemployment by improving job training opportunities.
“My plan will direct Congress to streamline and coordinate federal job training services, which right now are duplicative, uncoordinated and inefficient. We need to improve federal programs, cut the red tape, and give more power and flexibility to state and local job training systems, so that American workers have the training they need for the high-skills, high-paying jobs of the 21st century.”
Rooney’s plan, the Restore America Act, will include provisions to foster an environment where the private sector can grow and create jobs by reforming the tax code, eliminating unnecessary regulations, and expanding American energy production.
“Washington doesn’t create jobs – businesses and innovators do,” Rooney said. “We can’t ask job creators to lead us into economic recovery while we’re repeatedly weighing them down with unnecessary mandates, a broken tax code, high energy costs, and uncertainty about what’s coming next.”
