Rooney: 2018 Farm Bill Fails
Washington, D.C. – Congressman Thomas J. Rooney (R-FL) issued the following statement on the U.S. House of Representatives’ failure to pass H.R. 2, the Agriculture and Nutrition Act (Farm Bill):
“This year’s Farm Bill would have prioritized our nation’s agriculture community and given Florida’s farmers, ranchers and growers the tools they need to keep themselves in business and feed our country,” Rooney said. “The failure to pass this bill is a perfect example of the dysfunction within Washington. If we can’t get behind something as simple as supporting agriculture then that just goes to show how completely screwed up our system has become. Florida’s farmers and ranchers work hard every day to ensure that our nation has a safe and abundant food supply.
“Over the last year, my district has been faced with an overwhelming amount of agricultural issues and fighting to help Florida’s farmers and growers has been my biggest mission since then,” Rooney continued. “This bill would have come at a critical time for them and for all of our nation’s farmers and ranchers. I hope this serves as a wakeup call to everyone in Washington and across the country that something needs to change and good people need to step up and put down these extreme political purists. I commend the hard work of the Agriculture Committee on their work over the last few years.”
