ICYMI: Rooney Discusses Security after Arizona Tragedy on Dylan Ratigan Show

Washington, D.C. – U.S. Rep. Tom Rooney (FL-16) appeared today on the Dylan Ratigan Show on MSNBC to discuss security and safety for members of Congress and the public in the wake of the tragic shooting in Arizona.

“I represent eight counties in Florida.  We’re going to make sure that somebody in each Sheriff’s office knows when I’m in town and if I’m going to be having any kind of public gathering, not just for my safety, but to make sure that when people are coming out to visit their Congressman, they’re not going to fear for their lives or safety,” Rooney said in the interview.

Rooney also discussed his efforts to improve mental health services for returning troops and to remove the stigma of mental illness.

“I’ve taken the lead along with members of the Democratic party to try to do something about mental health with our returning war fighters,” Rooney said.  “It goes to the stigma of mental health . . . We have to move forward, so that people that need that kind of help, specifically in my respect in the military, are given it when they return home.”
