Congressman Rooney Commends New VA Program
WASHINGTON, D.C. – Congressman Tom Rooney (R-FL) commended the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) for launching a new online Access and Quality Tool that will allow veterans to access data on the average wait times and quality of care at VA facilities in their local area. The VA’s Access and Quality Tool is the most transparent and easy-to-understand website offering wait time and quality data in the entire health care industry.
“My district is home to one of the largest veterans populations in the country and despite some improvements we’ve been able to make over the past few years, veterans are still experiencing problems with getting timely access to quality care, especially in rural areas,” Rooney said. “It’s no secret that the VA has suffered from a widespread and systemic lack of accountability throughout the entire organization. Veterans across the nation are justifiably tired of inexcusable wait times, and their lack of trust in the government to provide the basic services we promised in exchange for their service is unacceptable. This program is evidence of a new era of transparency and accountability at the VA under Secretary Shulkin’s leadership, and validates his commitment to finally reforming how things are done across the VA to ensure our nation’s veterans receive the highest quality of care.”
The VA’s new Access and Quality Tool will allow veterans unprecedented access to the following:
- Average times patients are waiting to be seen in their local area
- How other veterans describe their experiences scheduling primary and specialty care appointments at specific VA facilities
- Timeliness of appointments for veterans needing immediate care
- The quality of health care delivered at VA medical centers compared with local private-sector hospitals
