As a Member of the Appropriations Committee, in addition to working to ensure Florida gets its fair share of funding for important environmental projects, Congressman Rooney has introduced legislation to address the need to expedite repairs and construction of the Herbert Hoover Dike as well as fund Comprehensive Everglades Restoration Program projects.

As an Army veteran and a member of the House Appropriations Committee's Subcommittee on Veterans Affairs, Congressman Rooney has actively been fighting for the 70,000 veterans living in Florida's 17th district since the day he was elected to Congress. He believes Congress has a moral obligation to care for those who served, and will continue holding the VA accountable to ensure the utmost level of care and services for our returning war fighters, their families and veterans.
Congressman Rooney believes that Social Security and Medicare are critical programs for America's seniors. He is working to protect benefits for retirees while saving these important programs for future generations.
Florida's 17th district is one of the largest agriculture producing areas in the country. With dairy, sugar, citrus, beef, fruit and vegetable farmers, South Florida's agriculture community is richly diverse and a great economic engine for the region. As a leader on agriculture issues in the House, Congressman Rooney is an ardent defender of our agriculture community and a strong voice for their needs in Washington.
Over the past several years, Congress has routinely ceded control over spending to the executive branch and struggled to meet the target of passing appropriations bills and a budget resolution on time. Congressman Rooney believes our current system is broken and that we must enact reforms to reinforce Congress’ power of the purse and improve oversight of the executive branch’s activities.
