Rooney: Weak Jobs Report Highlights Need for New Approach
Washington, D.C. – U.S. Rep. Tom Rooney (FL-16) issued the following statement on the jobs report released this morning by the Bureau of Labor Statistics, showing the economy gained just 80,000 jobs in October:
“While President Obama campaigned and Harry Reid staged votes designed only to fail, the economy continued to sputter and 14 million Americans remained out work in October,” Rooney said. “The House has now passed 22 jobs bills with bipartisan support, but those bills can’t even get a vote in the Democratic Senate – that’s a shame, and the American people deserve better.
“After the failure of the first stimulus to meet its stated goals of keeping unemployment below eight percent, the last thing we need is Stimulus 2.0. That’s why I have introduced a plan get Washington out of the way, tear down roadblocks to economic growth, and lay the groundwork for real, private-sector job creation.
“My plan helps put Americans back to work in four key steps: reform the tax code, get rid of unnecessary regulations, expand domestic energy production, and streamline federal job training programs.”
