Washington, D.C. – U.S. Rep. Tom Rooney (FL-16) today praised Indian River State College (IRSC), which announced it will establish the nation’s first Regional Center for Nuclear Education and Training, for its continued leadership in the field of nuclear education.

“IRSC is continuing to lead the country and the world in preparing students for high-skills, high-paying jobs in the nuclear field,” Rooney said.  “This new training center will serve as a model for programs across the country, helping meet the national need for thousands of skilled nuclear employees.  Expanding the number of trained nuclear technicians is critical to ensuring we have a safe, reliable and affordable energy supply.”

The project will be funded by a $3.1 million National Science Foundation Advanced Technological Education grant, which was awarded on a competitive basis.
