Washington, D.C. – U.S. Rep. Tom Rooney (FL-16) today issued the following statement after voting in favor of the House Republicans’ “Path to Prosperity” budget:

“I ran for Congress because I was worried about the direction of our country and the mountain of debt we’re passing on to our children. I have three young sons, and I don’t want to be the first generation in American history to leave our children a country in worse shape than the one we inherited.

“The budget passed by the House cuts spending significantly, saves Medicare for the next generation, prevents dangerous defense cuts, and ensures that our economy can grow and create new jobs. Our budget stands in stark contrast to the President’s proposal, which adds $6.4 trillion to the national debt despite including every job-destroying tax hike in the book and gutting national defense.

“I wish we could have a real debate in Congress about our spending, our debt, and the future of this country. Unfortunately, for nearly three years, the Democrats who control the Senate have refused to write a budget. The Senate Democrats’ refusal to address our fiscal crisis is shameful.”
