Rooney and Boccieri Join Together Again on to Introduce Another Job Creation Bill
10/28/09Today, Congressman Tom Rooney (R-Fla.) and Congressman John Boccieri (D-Ohio) introduced their second bipartisan job creation bill titled the Back to Work Tax Credit Act which encourages employers to create new jobs by hiring the long-term unemployed. The legislation, which builds upon the HIRE America Act introduced earlier this month by Rooney and Boccieri, specifically expands the Work Opportunity Tax Credit (WOTC) to give employers a tax credit for hiring people who have been collecting unemployment benefits for 26 weeks.

Rooney Supports Solar Technology Roadmap Act

10/15/09Washington, D.C. – Today, Reps. Tom Rooney (R-Fla.) and Michael McMahon (D-N.Y.) introduced legislation to give TRICARE beneficiaries direct access to professional mental health counselors. The Counselor Accessibility Reform and Expansion for Soldiers Act, also known as the CARES Act, would allow anyone covered under TRICARE the same access to mental health care professionals that many covered under private insurance enjoy today.

Tom Rooney (R-Fla.) and John Boccieri (D- Ohio) introduced the Helping Invigorate and Revive our Economy Act of 2009, also known as the HIRE America Act, to help create jobs for hard working Americans. The HIRE America act will expand the Work Opportunity Tax Credit (WOTC) to encourage employers to hire additional employees.

McMahon/Rooney Mandate for Soldiers' Mental Health Screenings Included in Defense Authorization Bill
10/09/09Washington, DC – Today, Reps. Michael E. McMahon (D-NY) and Thomas J. Rooney (R-FL) celebrated another victory in their fight to ensure that our service men and women receive adequate mental health care. Included in the Defense Authorization Bill for FY 2010 is the language from H.R. 1308, the Veterans Mental Health Assessments and Screening Act, which was cosponsored by McMahon and Rooney and introduced on March 5, 2009. The bipartisan H.R. 1308 was submitted by the Members for inclusion into the Defense Authorization bill earlier this year. The Defense Authorization Act passed the House today by a vote of 281 to 146 and is expected to be signed into law by President Obama tomorrow.
